A Guest Appearance on Bonanza

The producer of The High Chaparral, David Dortort, also gave the world an enduring man-and- his-sons saga entitled Bonanza. It was already an established hit by the time The High Chaparral premiered, and -- surprise, surprise -- Henry Darrow had been featured as a guest star. The February 1967 episode was entitled "Amigo", and Henry played the title role. He was a "bad guy" who wasn't really bad -- just caught up with the wrong sort of people for all the wrong reasons. Looking back now, it isn't hard to see premonitions of Manolito -- the accent, the hair, the inherent goodness of the man. His character redeemed himself in the end -- as Mano did so many times -- often in spite of himself!
